Use It or Lose It: Avoid Gum Disease Through Dental Benefits

With the holidays so close, you may not see dental care as a big priority right now. Who has time for that when there are decorations, parties, and festivals to enjoy? Even so, the truth is that you should avoid gum disease through dental benefits while you still can. Anything less will just lead to costly and time-consuming dilemmas later. For more details, here’s a primer on gum disease and dental insurance from your Denver dentist.

Is Gum Disease Really That Serious?

You’d really do well to avoid gum disease this season. If you let it occur, oral health damage and strained finances would ruin your holidays.

Note that periodontitis – the advanced phase of gum disease – has harsh effects.  Left unchecked, the condition causes sensitive and swollen gums, gum recession, chewing pain, and even tooth loss. Such symptoms are nothing to sneeze at and greatly reduce a person’s quality of life. When they occur over the winter season, they’ll disrupt what should be a festive time.

Adding insult to injury, gum disease treatment can get costly. Periodontal therapy or surgery is only partly covered by dental insurance, so its final price sometimes reaches thousands of dollars. Treatment can also involve follow-ups in harsh cases, driving the cost even higher.

Dental Benefits to the Rescue

As bad as the above problems are, it’s entirely possible to prevent them. All you need to do is maximize your dental benefits before gum disease can occur.

You see, most insurance plans fully cover dental checkups. They see these trips to the dentist as medically necessary and thus meet the full cost; you just need to handle the co-pay. Since checkups remove built-up plaque, that means dental benefits can prevent gum disease for a very low price. They’ll stop the threat of infected gums without “breaking the bank,” ensuring you have happy holidays.

As for any unique details in your dental plan, you can confirm those through your dentist. Your local practice will gladly get you in touch with your insurance provider.

Schedule a Checkup Soon

If you want to avoid gum disease through dental benefits, make sure to schedule a checkup soon. Your insurance won’t help with appointment costs otherwise.

A dental plan’s unused benefits don’t simply “roll over” from year to year. After December 31st, they become inaccessible until you meet your deductible again. You can only prevent gum disease cheaply this season by getting a checkup before the new year.

To avoid gum disease through dental benefits is a wonderful thing. Therefore, try to see your dentist before 2025 ends!
